Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Built-in VPN Setup

Here is instructions for setting up the Built-in VPN Client on Mac OS (10.6):

  1. Open System Preferences and select Network
  2. Click on the “+” in the bottom left corner
  3. Select Interface: VPN and VPN Type: Cisco IPSec and then change the Service Name: BUMC VPN and then click Create.
  4. Next donfigure the Server Address.  Type work2.bumc.bu.edu for the Server Address and your BU user name for “Account Name:”.  Then Click on Authentication Settings…
  5. Under Shared Secret: BUMC and Group Name: BUMC Then, Click OK.
  6. Check off “Show VPN Status in menu bar” then Apply and quit out of System Preferences.
  7. Click on the VPN icon in the menu bar at the top right corner and select Connect BUMC VPN.
  8. Type in your BU credentials select OK.
  9. To disconnect from the VPN, click on the VPN icon again and select Disconnect BUMC VPN.
