Cosmetic Lid Surgery

Cosmetic Eyelid and Facial Surgery

The number of cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States has been on the rise for a number of years, and cosmetic eyelid surgery remains one of the most common of these plastic surgery procedures.

A broad range of surgeries and office procedures are available to address a variety of cosmetic problems and concerns. A variety of physicians with various levels of training offer these procedures. It is important to select a surgeon with whom you are comfortable and able to communicate. Communication between patient and surgeon is important to assure that your expectations are realistic and that the proposed surgery addresses your desires.

When contemplating eyelid surgery or cosmetic surgery to the mid- and upper face, an oculoplastic surgeon is an excellent choice. Oculoplastic or ophthalmic plastic surgeons complete an ophthalmology residency as well as plastic surgery fellowship training. Our eyes are one of our most precious organ systems, and oculoplastic surgeons are uniquely equipped to ensure the safety of the eyes during cosmetic surgery in this area.

Some popular cosmetic procedures performed around the eyes and upper face include: upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, Botox injection, endoscopic brow lift and collagen filler injection.

Upper and lower lid blepharoplasty removes wrinkled skin and bulging fat from the eyelids. This helps to restore a more youthful appearance and reduces the feeling of heaviness caused by these excess tissues.

Botox injection is now FDA approved for use in treating facial lines and wrinkles. Botox decreases movement of the underlying facial muscles to eliminate unwanted forehead creases, crow’s feet and furrows between the brows.

Droopy eyebrows may cause a tired appearance, as well as contribute to excess skin in the upper eyelids. Through several small incisions behind the hairline, endoscopic equipment can be used to lift the forehead and brows to restore a smoother, less wrinkled forehead and higher eyebrow position.

Collagen filler injection can be used to eliminate unwanted creases and depressions on the face. Unlike Botox, this treatment is used for non-dynamic lines. A number of new innovations in filler materials are available on the market.

Cosmetic surgery, when contemplated carefully and approached with realistic expectations can enhance ones appearance and self-confidence, and help to restore a more youthful appearance.
