Chunxiang Yao’s work, under the leadership of Prof. Costello, has been focused on characterization of proteins and their post-translational modifications by mass spectrometry related to aging and autoimmune diseases. She currently participates in a jointed project with MD. Allen Steere at MGH and Harvard Medical School, to investigate HLA-DR associated peptides, as the autoimmune biomarkers for human patients with antibiotic-refractory Lyme arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. She is primarily involved in the development of mass spectrometry-based analytical methods, including peptides extraction and purification from tissues samples, online LC separation, tandem mass spectrometry detection, and peptide mapping using different searching engines such as Mascot, OMSSA and X!tandem. She also has excellent experience in peptide isotope labeling and other chemical modifications, characterization of protein deamidation and isomerization by a variety of mass spectrometers, and dissociation mechanism study of transient radicals with important biological functions. Chunxiang enjoys the collaborative opportunities to work with worldwide researcher and scholars with multiple research interests.
