– Boston Nutrition Obesity Research Center: 25 Years of Progress on the Links Between Overweight and Cancer, from “Cancer News in Context”
SYNOPSIS: The Boston Nutrition Obesity Research Center held its annual symposium and poster session on Monday, July 10, 2017. This year’s meeting honored George L. Blackburn, M.D., Ph.D who died in February 2017. Dr. George L. Blackburn initially served as the Director of the Center’s Clinical Core and was later appointed Associate Director for Clinical Education. He also served on the Center’s Executive Committee from 1992-2017. The meeting opened with Plenary talks by Drs. Graham Colditz (Washington University School of Medicine, Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center), James Hill (University of Colorado School of Medicine, Colorado Clinical Nutrition Research Unit) and Rudolph Leibel (Columbia University). The Plenary Session was followed by a tribute to Dr. Blackburn, which was organized by Dr. Caroline Apovian. Drs. Miguel Alonso-Alonso (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School), Isaac Greenberg (Mount Auburn Weight Management Center), Caroline Apovian (Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine and Lee Kaplan (Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School) each shared personal memories and thoughts about Dr. Blackburn. The program concluded with a juried poster session featuring over twenty posters.Photos from the Event
