Travis Hengen, MS HEM

TravisHengenMr. Hengen is the statewide training coordinator for the Resource Management System at MEMA (Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency). He joined the Healthcare Emergency Management Program in January 2009 as the program’s first student.  During the summer of 2010, he completed his practicum on the use of electronic tracking devices on children with autism during disasters.  Since completing the program in August 2010, Mr. Hengen stayed with the program as faculty.  He is currently the course director and instructor for Experimental Design and Statistics.  He also collaboratively teaches Psychology and Sociology of Disasters and Methods of Risk Communication as well as Principles, Methods, and Practices of Modeling and Simulation.

Prior to joining the Healthcare Emergency Management Program, Mr. Hengen spent nearly 12 years in the United States Army as a Warrant Officer, counterintelligence agent, and interrogator.  During his career he led a tactical human intelligence team in Kuwait.  He was also part of a force protection team in Croatia, Hungary, and Bosnia as well as the special agent in charge of two counterintelligence offices in Heidelberg and Darmstadt, Germany.

After leaving the military in 2003, Mr. Hengen completed a bachelor’s degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution at San Diego State University and a master’s degree in Healthcare Emergency Management at Boston University.  While at San Diego State University, he helped teach the Global Systems and International Security in the Nuclear Age courses.  Mr. Hengen lives with his partner, Les Linares, MD, in Weymouth, MA along with their dog, Casey, and cat, Toonces.
