Why I became involved in the Academies? During my medical school training, I greatly benefited from a similar small community system that existed in my Medical school. I know that having such a relationship with faculty, especially in a large school, where one may quickly get very lost, can often be an anchor. I would also like to reach out to South Asian students, who may have a unique cultural background that I am familiar with. I maybe able to help them navigate and negotiate their barriers. Being a woman in Academic Medicine, I believe strongly in mentoring women who choose to have a career and have a balanced personal lifestyle. I would like to! share my personal experiences with students, who may foresee such a future. |
